Redwood Surgery were sorry to learn of the recent death of former partner Dr William Baird.

Billy graduated from Queens University Belfast in 1970 and after hospital training and working overseas in Africa joined the practice of Dr Bleakley and Johnston in Hamilton Road in 1975.

He was one of the Original GPs to move to Bangor Health Centre when it opened where he worked until his retirement in 2008.

Billy was a very experienced and skilled clinician, and was a longstanding GP trainer responsible for helping develop new GPs.

He was an accomplished sportsman, playing rugby for BRA school, QUB and Bangor Rugby Club in its heyday. He was also a competent skier, horseman and sailor and was widely known in sailing circles.

Unfortunately Billy suffered from poor health in recent years and was cared for at home by his wife Elaine, where he passed away on the 18th of May.

He will be remembered as a valued colleague and for his infectious good humour.

We wish to express our sympathy and love to Elaine, his wider family and large circle of friends at this sad time.
